Life in the Universe

I. The Big Bang

Out of nowhere, a weird kind of super-dense atomic or subatomic structure banged out towards all directions much faster than the speed of light, creating the time & space and the basis for our existing Universe some 14 billion years ago, co-incidentally. All that started to happen just in the first few extremely small fractions of a second after the bang. Since then the universe is expanding and accelerating. Then by the time the energy and the plasma (electrically charged gas) began to condense into dust and other gases later on forming first galaxies and stars. Some hundreds of millions of years later some of the old stars could not hold themselves and exploded. They sprayed their heavier elements out into the space. That debris incorporated into the large dust and gas clouds which create the new stars under gravitation forces. Our sun was made this way and planets were made in the rotating disk of gas and dust around it.

II. The Universal Evolution of Life

Later, when the Universe had generated enough elements thru star explosions and other interactions, something strange happened at various places in the Universe. Life began to develop on the planets, comets, asteroids and other exotic places just because those places had the 'right ingredients and condition' to support it.

Our planet Earth was no exception. Once Earth developed the suitable conditions to support the Life, it created single-celled bacteria or bacteria-like creatures which animated automatically and engaged in reproduction. Within next billions of years, the basic form of life developed into complex animals. The living things, which could run, swim, or fly. Human beings are the later form of those complex animals especially apes.

All known life on Earth is based on Carbon. Carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorus are elements that exist in all organisms on Earth? (Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia). In a famous Yuri-Miller Experiment a few decades earlier, the Earth's early environment was simulated in the laboratory to show that the seeds of life were essentially the amino acids and these were created as theorized. This experiment was reported successful and confirmed the story mentioned above.

This is the story of the Universe and the Life, widely accepted as a standard theory worldwide. Standing on Earth, everything is fine and supporting the whole idea thru brief observation. Within the atmospheric boundaries of Earth and general biology, physics and chemistry, the theory is perfect and valid.

III. The Prediction of Universal Evolution of Life

Any theory explaining Origin of Life must deal with two dimensions of the question of life: Who are we? And who else is out there? The answer of any one must also unlock the other. The theory must not predict contradiction to other observations which are not directly concerned to what is being explained. A good theory automatically generates consistency of this sort. For instance, consider: Geology and cosmology independently workout the origins of their domains and in the end Earth shows up to be older than Universe. Independently these subjects may prove their results correct, it is obvious that their results cannot be trusted in this scenario.

Thus by the fusion of two mutually co-incidental but independent views, evolution of life and creation of the Universe, combined which is the Universal Evolution of Life, predicts that life is the co-incidence and automatic 'playing around' of the elements generated earlier in the cosmic history, it must be found beyond Earth too. In other words, co-incidences can happen anywhere in the Universe if it happened on the Earth.

IV. The Limitations of Universal Evolution of Life

The trouble begins when you wear the correct spectacles of wider scientific and logical approach. Independently both theories have the ability to touch upon their respective domains seemingly with logic and observation, combined they can never answer the underlying one phenomenon from which their domains stem. The theory does not explain why the amino acids did not self-animate in the Yuri-Miller's experiment. What is the source of self-animation in the first ever cell in the history? In further complex questions, why do humans use cell-phones and apes do not? And why do the humans search for the origin of life and dolphins do not? It is something like the story of a scientist who saw a beautiful wrist watch on the sandbeach. He 'theorized' that a few days ago a minor hurricane may have approached this beach twisting everything in its path. During this process, a wrist watch was automatically manufactured in it by interactions of the elements. He then publicized his theory in the famous physics journal. The other physicists found this theory so aesthetically correct that it became internationally acclaimed way of theorizing everything. In reality you may deny the beautiful theory just mentioned, but if you replace the wrist watch with the Universe and the Life, it would be unfortunately the theory which is considered the excellence of human knowledge.

V. The Life on the Moon

When you elevate yourself from the boundaries of Earth and see the Earth from the Moon, the trouble deepens. What about the life other than Earth? Once you know the ingredients of life, you will expect the same composition to be applied on your searching criteria for life living elsewhere in the Universe, if you think that whole Universe and its physics has the common roots. Scientists searched for life on the Moon, living or fossilized, nothing was found even the hint. We know that Moon is sometimes called the Companion Planet of Earth because of its large size. Co-incidentally, there must be at least one fossil record of species if not in billions, like Earth. We are not exactly searching for the aliens which may be the advanced form of life, even more than us humans. What we are exactly looking for are the unicellular or alike organisms. This search also includes the botanical life i.e., plants, shrubs, grass etc. Even a trace of plant will mean the possibility of comparatively advanced life forms. According to this type of approach, if an alien visits the Earth in the search of Life, he or she may land somewhere near the poles, deserts, or the oceans. It will not be hard to explore the unicellular life in the sands of the desert or water samples in the oceans. The exploration of these organisms will be the evidence that the planet has the potential of life. Thus, the samples of rock and sand brought from the Moon by the NASA astronauts have confirmed that Moon is lifeless, though it is in the 'Comfortable Zone' like the Earth.

VI. The Drake's Equation: Probabilities of Life in the Milky Way Galaxy

Frank Drake, one of the most influential astronomers, proposed the probability of life throughout the galaxy by introducing a mathematical equation, namely Drake Equation. This equation explains that if there are 100 Billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy, 1 percent may be hosting the Earthlike planet. Likewise, if there are 1 Billion planets are found Earthlike, there may be 1 percent of them possessing the life. Out of which 1 percent of planets may contain intelligent species. After narrowing down the probability of life, there are millions of planets with abundance of life throughout the Milky Way Galaxy. People started searching for life through initiating various projects. SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) is one example which started its research and analysis almost half a century ago using large radio antennae and later combining supercomputers. We humans first broadcasted our long range television signals (which travel at the speed of light in all directions) about 70 years ago, which means the extra-terrestrial life residing within 70 light-years of the distance may have already received the signals, thus knowing our presence, if they are intelligent enough to comprehend the signals. Unfortunately every effort was a big failure and still facing problems.

VII. The Discovery of Earthlike Planet around Gliese 581

Recently a new planet is detected some 20.5 light years away from us, orbiting another star naming Gliese 581 in the constellation of Libra. It is thought to be a rocky planet and mathematically located at the same 'comfortable distance' from its star as the Earth is from the Sun. After getting excited about the first few weeks of the discovery and the possibilities of life on the planet, later the research showed that even if it lies in the comfortable zone, the star's harmful radiation (particularly the X-rays and the gamma-rays) may have caused its atmosphere to burn up, thus destroying the DNAs of any life form happens to be on the planet. This is because the planet orbits its star in just 13 days. The star is about 10% of the size (mass) of our Sun, so its 'comfortable zone' is relatively closer to it, more closer than Mercury's orbit (about 14 times closer than the Earth's orbit). The result is 'tidal locking' where planet always faces the same side to its star. In this case, there is an eternal day on one side and an eternal night on the other side thus receiving intense and direct radiation continuously on the same side. The research and evidence indicate that Mercury is also partially tidally locked to the Sun. For instance, our Moon is tidally locked to Earth, this is why we see its same side. Moon's other side has never seen the Earth. That is why the constraints are too tight to assume this planet Earthlike. Moreover, the Earth is itself considered to be the Live Planet. Evidences indicate that the way our solar system is, there are just too many so-called co-incidences for the life to come into existence and survive as well. Each related co-incidence decreases the probability of the co-incidence. Finding Earth somewhere else is, therefore, as improbable as to find the life elsewhere. This must never mean that the research should stop because we think there is no life anywhere else. We must have the evidence of what we logically think is appropriate or inappropriate. Finding the evidence for a particular issue in the mysterious Universe may answer some of those questions too which we would have never come up with.

VIII. The Discovery of Galactic Water Vapor

Thus, 'Life' started putting us humans into mystery when we reached in the space and sent our mechanical extensions (probes) in the deep space. According to the theories of automatic and co-incidental formation of life, if it started on Earth, then it could be flourishing elsewhere as well. There was not even a single trace found anywhere through any means which could confirm any life form. What is more compelling is that the Ingredients of Life, the life elements, were found everywhere throughout the solar system and even in the deep space. Trillions of kilometers in length the clouds mainly of Amino Acids, Carbon, Oxygen, and Hydrogen have been explored. In 1996, European Space Agency's Infrared Space Observatory (space telescope) reported the first galactic water vapor found in a deep space, a cloud naming NGC7027. One might say, it signifies that life is a normal phenomena in the Universe, but research indicates reverse is true. The more we find the ingredients of life in the space, the less significant they become, and the more life becomes independent of ingredients.

IX. The Probability of Life on Mars and Europa (Jupiter's Moon)

Let's examine how the ingredients of life become less significant as we explore them. 'Biologists are focusing new attention on the ability of life on Earth to live in extreme environments - from the cold dry deserts of Antarctica to superheated hydrothermal springs in the dark depths of oceans - life is proving to be remarkably robust. In comparison, planetary bodies such as Mars and Europa (Jupiter's moon) show evidence of environments no worse than those in some parts of Earth- (Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia). We have searched the traces of life on Mars for more than decade now, but failure. Not even a unicellular organism or its fossil found anywhere throughout the space age.

Common sense says if life is the matter of co-incidence, and its ingredients are scattered everywhere then it should be everywhere. If it's not everywhere, then it should not be on Earth as well. If the Universe looks same from any point of Universe then the abundance of life ingredients have equalized the distribution of life too. The co-incidental theory results in the people who are basically apes, a little less hairy and a little more intelligent. In contrast, one should compare himself with the ape and the dolphin to know the lack of logic and reason of a co-incidental way of evolution.

X. The Secret Agency of the Life and the Time

The only solution to this paradox is that we will have to go back to the drawing boards and redefine the life, this time carefully. It seems that Self-Animation in a living thing belongs to some unknown non-materialistic realm where the decisions are not dependent on the mechanical logic. 'Life' has the mysterious properties which resemble the behaviour of 'Time', thus commenting on the problems with Time Travel, the prospective Nobel laureate professor, Stephen Hawking (Cambridge University, England), says 'There seems to exist a Chronology (time) Protection Agency that protects history and prohibits time travelers from changing the past'. Before we can comprehend the 'Life' and the 'Time', we will have to explore the Agency whose attributes are the 'Life' and the 'Time'. Therefore, we will explore the possibilities of the True Source of Life in the next episode and leaving you with one simple question. How many living things are found on Earth today? Can you count all of the living things since the first living cell? If you count all, you will get the startling number which cannot be written down easily unless you use the proper scientific notation. So, let's say if all humans are alike with respect to their chemical and biological composition, why everyone is different from each other with respect to not some well described factors, for instance; sense of identity and consciousness?

XI. The Plasmatic and Photonic Life

We will discuss in future about the Life in the Universe which is independent of traditional ingredients or elements. There is a phenomenon which suggests the existence of Plasmatic and Photonic beings, in here and out there, in the space. Though it is not fully understood and possesses the immense skepticism in the scientific community, at least we know that something is going on and currently we don't have any explanation for this (thus it is felt better to be skeptic until solid evidence emerges), but we should try to know what's going on in this realm. These life-forms are sometimes mistakenly referred to Little Green Men or aliens. In reality, they are not alien civilizations but life-forms from other dimensions of space and time, existing around us, and not came from exterior regions of space and time. Though less known whatsoever their dimensions and elements are, their Source of Life is the same issue as ours or of the plants.
